Teams and Designs that have created innovation in a long-established company
In the year 2021, when the movement away from plastic is rapidly accelerating, a "paper razor" made entirely of paper and metal was born.
The developer was Kaijirushi, a long-established cutlery manufacturer that has been in business for 114 years. In fact, this project started as an idea that came from a cross-departmental team. While it is said that innovation is difficult to come out of a long-established company, how did this project, which matched the current trends of the times, proceed? How was design involved in the process of using materials that were completely different from the conventional ones, thinking through the structure, and incorporating them into mass production?
Mr. Shiotani, the project manager of the paper razor, and Mr. Otsuka, who oversees design at Kaijirushi, have been invited to talk about the twists and turns from team building to mass production from various perspectives.
